about

Our trio proudly presents...
Every band needs a 2020 lockdown EP!

'brainhack musicbox' usually means modular synth - but timespace got warped so much this year - and this time our main musicbox was an old Sony TC-800B tape machine.

The main drone source was a shruti box played by Anton Boldenko - the tracks he sent in April were recorded to the crappy old tape, slowed down by 2, 4 and 8 - and recorded back into PC through Electro-Harmonix Graphic fuzz. As a result we got a shruti orchestra with a massive sound.

The same processing was applied to the sax tracks by Pavel Lisovsky. Even more - we make him play with himself in trio when the same notes played at different speeds simultaneously.

What’s unusual for this release is the minimum of synths: just a touch of Sidrax at the beginning and a bits of MS-20 at some points.

‘Khrooshch’ is a transliterated Ukrainian name of some beetles from the Scarabaeidae family known for their specific low buzz sounds.
